According to the deputy minister of the local Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kominfo), the department has 150 special employees who continuously monitor the internet for gambling activities. According to the ministry, from July 2022 to March 2024 alone, Kominfo has blocked access to approximately 1.5 million websites related to online gambling. To eradicate gambling activities, the ministry is collaborating with the Financial Services Authority (OJK) to block gambling-related bank accounts, as well as with the National Police (Polri) and Meta. However, the volume of blocked content keeps increasing. In general, Indonesia could serve as an example to all other jurisdictions that, in the internet age, attempt not to regulate but to ban the gambling market.
