In Germany, a proposal has been made to abolish criminal liability for unregulated gambling

Justice Minister Marco Büchmann wants to eliminate Article 284 from the German Criminal Code, which currently prohibits unauthorized gambling activities (unregulated gambling). This move has sparked criticism.

Drug Commissioner Burkhard Blienert is concerned that this will lead to a loss of control and an increase in criminal organizations. In his opinion, local regulatory authorities will be completely overwhelmed with checks.

As an example, the German regulator (GGL) attempted to block payments and IP addresses in an effort to rein in operators. The result was unsatisfactory.

Earlier, Büchmann stated his intention to “systematically review” and “eliminate outdated provisions.”
